Port St. Lucie clients work with us without traveling to Broward

Port St. Lucie is one of Florida’s largest cities, with an estimated 268,062 residents in 2025, up from 204,851 in the 2020 Census. Interstate 95, Florida’s Turnpike, and U.S. 1 all run through the city, and Crosstown Parkway carries east–west traffic across the North Fork of the St. Lucie River.

A claim arising from a Port St. Lucie crash is decided under Florida law and, if it is filed in court, in the Nineteenth Judicial Circuit. A strong claim documents how the injury happened and what it will cost over time. If an insurer’s offer falls short, the case must be ready for trial.

DiStefano Law does not have an office in Port St. Lucie. The firm is based in Broward County, and Port St. Lucie clients can work with us entirely by phone, email, and video. When a matter requires a court appearance, we handle it in the Nineteenth Judicial Circuit.

Where you are located is rarely an obstacle. Cases are accepted across Florida, and your initial review is free, confidential, and same-day.

Common questions

Port St. Lucie injury questions, answered

Do I have to travel to Fort Lauderdale to work with DiStefano Law?
No. DiStefano Law does not have an office in Port St. Lucie. Port St. Lucie clients can work with the firm entirely by phone, email, and video, and when a court appearance is required, we handle it in the Nineteenth Judicial Circuit, which hears St. Lucie County cases.
Where would a Port St. Lucie injury lawsuit be filed?
A lawsuit arising from an injury in Port St. Lucie can generally be filed in St. Lucie County, where the incident occurred (Fla. Stat. § 47.011). St. Lucie County is part of the Nineteenth Judicial Circuit, and circuit civil cases there are heard at the St. Lucie County Courthouse, 218 S. 2nd Street, Fort Pierce. Claims for more than $50,000 are heard in circuit court; smaller claims go to county court (Fla. Stat. § 34.01).
How long do I have to file an injury claim in Port St. Lucie?
For most negligence claims arising after March 24, 2023, including car accidents and slip-and-fall injuries, Florida's statute of limitations is two years (Fla. Stat. § 95.11(5)(a)). Medical malpractice claims follow separate rules (§ 95.11(5)(c)), and claims against a government entity carry their own notice requirements. Because evidence is best preserved early, we recommend contacting an attorney promptly.
Who pays my medical bills after a car accident in Port St. Lucie?
Florida is a no-fault state. Your own personal injury protection (PIP) coverage pays 80 percent of reasonable medical expenses and 60 percent of lost income, regardless of who caused the crash, if you receive initial care within 14 days. The limit is $10,000 when a qualified provider finds an emergency medical condition; otherwise medical benefits are limited to $2,500 (Fla. Stat. § 627.736(1)). When injuries are serious, a claim against the at-fault driver may cover the losses PIP does not.
What if I was partly at fault for the accident?
Florida's modified comparative negligence rule reduces a recovery by your share of fault and bars recovery if you are found more than 50 percent at fault (Fla. Stat. § 768.81(6)). That bar does not apply to medical negligence claims, where a patient's share of fault only reduces the recovery. An insurer's early assessment of fault is not a court's finding.
What does it cost to hire the firm?
Nothing up front. DiStefano Law handles personal-injury cases on a contingency-fee basis, which means there is no fee unless we recover for you. Your initial case review is always free and confidential.
